One week after LSU won the BCS national championship, the nation's top prospect, quarterback Terrelle Pryor of Jeannette, Pa., announced that LSU had become an 11th-hour addition to the list of schools he "is considering" as a college destination. LSU offensive coordinator Gary Crowton met with Pryor on Thursday on a visit to the western Pennsylvania school about 30 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, and Crowton apparently has secured a visit from Pryor, a 6-foot-6, 225-pounder who runs a 4.4 in the 40-yard dash and is rated as the nation's No. 1 prospect by rivals.com and Scout.com. Pryor is visiting Michigan this weekend on his second official trip. He earlier visited Ohio State on the first weekend in November while leading Jeannette to a 16-0 season and the Class AA state championship of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association. "I've been wondering where the hell (LSU has) been," Jeannette Coach Ray Reitz said in confirming Pryor's interest. "But don't get me wrong: (LSU has) been sending him letters all along." Crowton's visit may have moved LSU ahead of Florida and Penn State in a list of finalists that also includes Oregon, Ohio State and Michigan. "I talked to Coach Crowton, a very nice guy," Reitz said Saturday. "He came in Thursday and met with Terrelle for about an hour. We had (Crowton) in one room and Penn State in another. I know (Pryor) is going to make a trip to Oregon next weekend. I believe he has plans to go to LSU." The Feb. 1 weekend appears to be LSU's best shot at a visit from Pryor, although Reitz said Pryor may take a midweek trip as well during the upcoming final two weeks of recruiting to accommodate his schedule with Jeannette's basketball team. "There are so many things going on in this thing (that) I don't know what to make of it," Reitz said. "It's confusing. Georgia Tech came up this week, and he told them he's interested in them." Pryor, who is qualified to play as a freshman, could not be reached for comment. He confirmed his interest in LSU to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Pryor was scheduled to visit Penn State this weekend but decided to visit Michigan, where Coach Rich Rodriguez will install a spread offense similar to the one Pryor operated at Jeannette. Oregon also runs the spread.
