Matthew Harper's interception with 12 seconds left seals the deal for the Ducks.
Matthew Harper had two interceptions, but the last one was a game-winner as No. 5 Oregon held on to defeat No. 9 USC 24-17 in front of the largest crowd in the state of Oregon. It was the first time Autzen Stadium played host to two Top 10 teams. It was billed as the inmovable object (USC's defense) against the irresistable force (Oregon's offense) and it was the Duck offense that did just enough to hold off the Trojans. Jonathan Stewart rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Ducks in their first victory over USC since 2001. His touchdown with 11:30 left in the game gave Oregon a 24-10 lead. But the Trojans came right back later in the quarter with five-play, 85 yard-drive that took up just 48 seconds and USC was back in the ball game with 4:44 left. The Oregon offense, that was able to move the ball consistently for most of the day, was bogged down for much of the fourth quarter and was forced to give the ball up with 3:10 left. The Trojans were able to drive down to the 30-yard line until USC quarterback Mark Sanchez threw into double coverage and Harper stepped in front to pick the pass off and return in to midfield, setting off a mass celebration. Oregon will now host Arizona State, who plays Cal later tonight in hopes of keeping theiir undefeated season alive.
